What's Happening - IHR
-
IHR South is
now open in Perry County! Thanks to a group of
horse people who care about horses and have the love and
dedication - they are working to ensure horses are being cared
for - and if they aren't - law enforcement is called in to help
in either confiscation or enforcing the law. Monnie Sims
and Jo Sodrel are just two of the dedicated people running IHR
South!
-
We have had to DOWNSIZE and close some of our
equine operations due to economics & lack of donations. We
will continue to operate, assist with law enforcement and take
in horses, but without donations, services must now be limited.
Everything is being done on a case by case basis.
-
We are involved in many investigations.
These investigations are all across the State of Indiana -
when Law Enforcement or Animal Control
calls us needing help - we go.
-
We must limit our
investigations. We just do not have the funding or
the manpower to continue doing this service all across the state
as we have in the past. We are NOT paid to do
investigations, we do not have law enforcement powers.
However, we do assist & educate law enforcement when requested.
Many counties to not allow their Humane Societies or Law
Enforcement to do large animal investigations or seizures - many
don't know that IHR is here to help.
-
The animals in our care must come first, as
always their health and well being is primary. We will
assist in advising anyone how to proceed when an animal is being
neglected and in educating law enforcement or animal control on
how the laws read and are able to be used. We do train
investigators, if you are interested, feel free to contact
Tony Caldwell.

IHR
Central, IHR Southwest
and IHR South
are currently housing and caring for over 130 horses.
Needing Homes - 1/2 Price
As we head into summer, the number of
neglect complaints have started coming in almost daily! Rescues all
across Indiana and our nation are being inundated with calls from horse
owners and animal lovers who can no longer keep their horses or know of
horses being neglected. None of us can
do it alone - we need your help, your support.
It takes approximately $75.00 to care for
each horse that we are caring for - not including utilities, rent/mortgage,
telephone, fuel and additional supplements many of them may need.
The horses
need a home - not just a stall!
For the month of June and
through July 4th - we are lowering many of the adoption donations to
1/2 Price
to help these wonderful horses find homes. Set up an appointment to
visit today!

Neglect
In the past 30
days we have taken in over 25 horses that were seized due to neglect - these
horses are looking at major recovery time due to lack of feed, parasite
control and medical care. Some have had to be euthanized or died - To
see some of these horses and read about them

We have applied
for grants to care for the Putnam County 18, but we still need more help to
care for them all - we have estimated $21,000 for medical, farrier and feed
JUST for the 18 - for 4 months - there are many more in our care that still need care!
Sponsor
Can't afford a horse but you
would like to be a part of a horses life?
We understand that there are many people that would like to adopt a horse
but have busy schedules, obligations or the lack of horse knowledge that
would prevent them from adopting a horse. Sponsoring is the support
which allows us to keep the horses who are here until the right home is
found.
