Medical Emergency
Indiana
Horse Rescue IS NOT closing! Please be patient as we make some
administrative changes in order to deal with the medical leave of
one of our staff.
In short,
one of IHR’s founders, Kathryn Caldwell, is on medical leave
and recovering at Southwest until further notice. On April 25th, she
was admitted to the hospital for 11 days. Thanks to many of your
prayers and lots of great doctors, Kathryn has no heart or brain
damage and although she has emphysema and scarring on her lungs,
with time she should make a 100% recovery.
Facility
Updates
This past week, IHR SW has taken in
two Thoroughbreds with a Henneke score of 1.5. A small pony was
seized with a severe eye injury, a high external parasite load, and
a Henneke score of only 1. Unfortunately it was too late for that
pony, but it did receive love, compassion and feed before crossing
the bridge.
IHR South took in 6 horses
along with the many they currently are caring for.
IHR Central continues to run
with their volunteer base, but has some office renovations taking
place, so please be patient as they try to work around the
construction! The new office phone number for Central is
765-659-3726. Business hours are
Saturday 10 am-6 pm and Sunday 10 am-4 pm. Monday-Friday is by
appointment only. Thanks for your understanding during this
transition.
IHR Pike is in need of donors
who will help sponsor the $400 vet bill they have incurred with the
care of Twinkle, a horse that arrived with severe leg injuries.
Cast-Away-Cats is a division of
APC and is now known as Cast-Away-Critters. They have implemented a
trap and release spay and neuter program which is need of sponsors
along with the rescuing of many other critters.
Donations
Donations
are always needed! Whether it is a donation of your time,
items for the horses or monetary donations. It is all needed.
We are always in need of MoorMan's Mineral - these 100 pound tubs
make a huge difference in the horses health. We use 4 of the
100# tubs each month at IHR Central - IHR Southwest is in need of
sponsors for
all the
pastures
for the mineral tubs. That is 9 pastures - the first month
they will likely go through 200 #'s then 100 pounds each month after
that. We have tried and had adopters try different minerals and if they
don't have the MoorMan's they will eat the trees, the wood, etc.
All I can say is it sure helps the horses stay healthy and get them
healthy when they come to us. Each 100 # tub has a cost of
approximately $40.00 - that is $160.00 per month at Central and
$360.00 at Southwest. We need your help to make it possible.
Get 10 of your friends together and that is only $36.00 each month
to provide mineral for all the horses at IHR SW!! Only $9.00
per week! Make sure you make a note that it is for Mineral for
the horses!
Needs - Wish List
Indiana Horse Rescue has been blessed by our many supporters and
adopters! We have been able to continue taking in horses that
owners can no longer keep and have had a record number of
horses returned from adopters due to health, jobs, finances, etc. IHR is
not state run, not state funded, but is a non profit
organization that depends on your
donations and depends on an
all volunteer staff.
IHR was been the recipient of a generous donation that has enable us
to do many repairs and upgrades to both of our rescue owned
facilities. IHR Central had a generous donor purchase all
our round bales for 4 months over the winter that enabled us to take
in horses in need and care for the ones that are in our care. Indiana
Horse Rescue is a non profit organization, however this does not
mean we do not have
mortgages, electric, phone, and medical bills to pay to stay open.
Both Frankfort and
Owensville facilities belong to the rescue, these are not private
property or personal residences, but properties purchased and owned
by the rescue to rescue and care for rescued horses.
Donations are always needed to care for these magnificent animals. Please
tell your friends to donate today to help the horses! $1.00, $5.00,-- every
little bit helps!
Record Year
Thanks to
each of you, the rescue continues to
grow! Horses continue to come and go, horses get healthy, horses get
adopted, and in some cases, horses cross the bridge with the love,
dignity, and the treatment they so much deserve. Each of us
volunteering is only a part of IHR. It will continue as long as you
are there for the horses. We need your continued support, the
horses need your support.
Many
horses come to the rescue—some who have been neglected, some because
their owners need to find homes for them, and they are donated to
the rescue so we can help them find that perfect home! We have been
taking in horses in record numbers, and thankfully we have been
finding them homes too. We adopted out record numbers of horses in
2010 and hope to adopt out even more in 2011! Every horse adopted
makes room for one more we can save. Check them out TODAY!
