What's Happening

  • In 1 week a total of 7 horses taken in at IHR Southwest. (click here to read more)
We have many cases that we are investigating, it takes, time, people and funds.  Taking a half hour to hour (or longer) drive to check out possible neglect may not seem like much, but doing it multiple times per week gets not only costly, but time consuming.  Reports, pictures, all have to be done and turned into vets, animal control officers, law enforcement, etc.  Any horses that have been confiscated must be evaluated by a veterinarian.  Along with caring for the horses currently in our care at each division.  Each division has volunteers that are responsible for feeding and caring for the horses, along with cleaning stalls, mowing grass, general upkeep and returning phone calls and e-mails.  More volunteers are always needed and appreciated!

  • September 27th and 28th Indiana Horse Rescue and Club H.O.P.E. participated in the Poseyville AutumnFest and Parade. We had a wonderful time, all of the volunteers and and horses did really well! Please check out the photo gallery at IndianaHorseRescue.com to check out photos from this event as well as photos from past events. Indiana Horse Rescue won 1st place Horse and Rider - BIG Thanks to Katie, Leah, Megan, and Melissa for taking the time to come out and practice with the horses for this event! Club H.O.P.E. won 2nd place Horse and Rider with the Miniatures, GREAT Job guys and gals!

  • We are currently looking into participating in two holiday parades coming up in November and December:

    November 23, 2008
    19th Annual Downtown Holiday Parade
    Evansville, Indiana

    and

    December 6, 2008
    Princeton Jaycees Christmas Parade
    Princeton, Indiana

Is anyone interested in doing either or both of these parades - walking, riding, throwing candy, anything else...
Please contact Kelsey (kelsey@indianahorserescue.com or 812-729-7697) to let her know if you are interested in participating! If we have enough interest we will go ahead and get the paperwork in!

  • Melanie had a very successful weekend at the Kewana Fall Festival! She raised funds as well as awareness for Indiana Horse Rescue. Thank you Melanie for taking the time to get the word out there! She will be starting a Club H.O.P.E. in that area!!! If you are interest in joining Club H.O.P.E. in Northern Indiana please contact Melanie for more information: gypsysoul1024@gmail.com or you can visit the Club H.O.P.E. website at http://www.indianahorserescue.com/HOPE/HOPEindex.htm

ZooToo.com Shelter Makeover II

This year, the makeover contest is in divided in 3 phases: In the first one, shelters supporters earn points by being active on zootoo for their affiliated shelter. The top 20 shelters become semi-finalists. During phase 2, Zootoo and its advisors will tour these shelters and view their condition in order to narrow the 20 Semi-finalists down to 10 Finalists. During phase 3, it will be up to America to vote on the most deserving shelter. The shelter with the highest number of public votes by America will win the makeover!

Any shelter, regardless of size and location can win the contest. Last year 75% of the top 20 were from small communities. Support your local shelter by simply being part of the largest online pet community in America, Zootoo.com.

We need your help to earn points for our shelter.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP US:

Wild Horse Refuge

IHR SW had to put off putting up fencing for the Wild Horse Refuge, due to the theft of all the T-posts.  We are now working on raising the $600.00 to get the fence in place for these horses along with other projects!  Our wild horse refuge is being set up to hold the nine mustangs that we currently have at our Central Division.  We will still need a shelter and heated waterer for the pasture, but these horses are going to be allowed to live their lives out at the rescue as the free horses they were meant to be!  We are also looking for sponsors for each of the 9 wild horses horses.
