Welcome Aboard SCRAPS
We are pleased to announce APC Scraps (Shelter Canine Rescue And Placement Services) our new Canine Division for Animal Protection Coalition, Inc.  We have worked with Sandra Payne and Tamera Pease for over 4 years and could not be more pleased to have them aboard.  They are still in the process of getting things set up and organized, so are unable to take many dogs at this time.  The website will be up and functional soon, in the meantime they can be reached at either
812-406-6223 or apcdogs@yahoo.com  They will be happy to assist you in finding the right canine partner!

Starke County
Many of you have heard of the 45 horses impounded in Starke County on October 4, 2007.  Those horses were signed over to IHR by the Judge on November 1, 2007 so they will be watched over for the rest of their lives. Prior to being placed in Indiana Horse Rescue custody, these horses were sent to foster homes.  While most of the foster homes are adopting the horses they have been caring for, others are not.  We have several equine that are available from that seizure.  That is more mouths to feed, deworm, hooves to trim, and anything else they need.  We are involved in many other ongoing investigations that may or may not require law enforcement to impound horses.  It has not yet gotten really cold outdoors and there has been no snow or bad weather.  We have already been contacted by additional counties to see if we would be able to take in horses this winter.

IHR is still in need of your support to continue our statewide efforts towards equine welfare!  Throughout Indiana we are still housing, caring for, and rehabilitating over 210 horses with more calls coming in from law enforcement regarding horses that need help.  Without your support we will not be able to continue the work that we do. Donations of hay, feed, and monetary donations are still needed now more than ever!

Good News

We are proud to announce that the Ride to the Rescue Benefit Trail Ride held on October 28, 2007 at the Tippecanoe State Park in Winamac, Indiana was a huge success! Just at 100 riders showed up to support Indiana Horse Rescue and raise money and donations for our horses in need. They raised approximately $2,100.00 and filled our trailer with horse related items!

The South Bend Tribune picked up this event and this event will be featured in the December issue of Horses of Indiana!

Bad News
I
ndiana Horse Rescue needs your help now more than ever.  Never in the years of our efforts have we ever been faced with this problem.  Right now IHR is being faced with the decision of having to euthanized horses.  We can not compromise any of these animals health at the expense of another.

We are faced with the decision of what to do.  We have many horses that are just in need of homes.  While we do understand the cost of hay has gone up considerably, it is still available.  We have taken advantage of Nutrena's buy 3 get 1 free for November and currently have 16 tons of feed on hand, however that has totally depleted our funds.  That will not feed all the horses in our care through March 30th, 2008; we need another $4,500.00 to purchase additional feed and hay.  This does not include electric, fuel, or additional medical expenses that may arise.
