Because we have many animals coming and going, and we have limited resources (we receive no state, county or government funding) we require the following for the safety and welfare of all Animal Protection Coalition, Inc. Animals:
If you are referred to us by the Sheriff's Dept, a Humane Society, or your veterinarian, we may be able to waive the one time cash donation, this is done on a case by case basis. We accept animals with a referral and can arrange for pick up for a fee.
Otherwise, we ask for:
-
$25.00 with any small animal, reptile, or bird, $100 with any canine or feline, $50.00 with any caprine or ovine, and $250.00 donation with any equine donated to help defray costs of care for animals. This is a one time fee and the only fee we charge. Each Division Manager has the ability to adjust or waive the fees based on each individual donors situation and circumstances. The cash donation along with the donation of the animal is considered tax deductible as allowed by law and your personal circumstances. We do not appraise the animals, it is up to you to be able to prove an animal's worth for your taxes.
-
We ask that you sign our Donation Agreement, which gives Animal Protection Coalition, Inc. ownership of the animal(s).
-
The Animal Questionnaire has many questions that you can answer to help us find your pet the right home.
-
Written documentation of any current veterinary services must accompany the animal, as well as current medications the animal is on.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Can you visit your pet after adoption? While it is at an Animal Protection Coalition, Inc. facility, yes by appointment only. But think of the adoption just as you would of a child. The people are screened, references checked and a match is made. Once the adoption takes place, we follow up for the rest of the animal's life. We cannot give you the names of the adopters, but we do screen them thoroughly and follow up on the placement to be sure everything is well.
What if we can't find a home for the animal? We will! It may take several months to find the perfect one, but we will, or the animal will remain with Animal Protection Coalition, Inc. permanently if he/she is too ill or old to be placed (we have several permanent residents).
What if I change my mind after signing him over? You need to understand that we are a humane organization, once an pet is donated the animal receives any care or treatment necessary. If you want your pet back, you must then apply to adopt it, we are responsible for that animal for the rest of its life. You should seriously consider whether you want to donate the animal prior to bringing it to the rescue facility.
Can you pick up my pet? Yes. Depending on how far away you are, we can arrange to have someone pick him/her up. There is a per mile fee to be paid for the trailer use, vehicle use, and driver. We prefer you deliver him/her if possible, then the only charge to you is the tax deductible donation. Animals may be dropped off by appointment only.
Why do you charge fees? We are a 501(c)3 non profit organization and work solely on donations, we currently have received no grants or government funding. We have to charge a fee to help defray these costs. We do not receive free feed, vet services or farrier services - we pay like everyone else (to many people's surprise!). The donation fee we charge does not even scratch the surface for these items. We cannot cover these things without charging someone...so we have a donation fee and an adoption fee. For example, many times we spend over $250.00 on a horse getting him up to date on vaccinations and worming prior to adopting him. We are always needing funds to help pay for the animal's needs!
Can my pet be resold? No, they do not completely belong to the new adopter, ever. We try to find permanent loving homes for our animals, but occasionally people must move, divorce, or have financial difficulties and must return the animal, they are always happy that we are here and can continue caring for them. We would like to microchip all of them in the future to guarantee this, but do not have the funding at this time.
Thank you for considering Animal Protection Coalition, Inc. to help you find the perfect home for your pet!
Still interested in donating your horse? The next step is to contact us by phone or email to see if we have an opening. We will begin the adoption process after he/she has arrived and been assessed. No animal leaves the property unless thoroughly screened for health and training. We want to be sure we make a good match with our adopters.
We get many many calls, so please be patient if we do not get back to you immediately. If you do not hear from us please call back, as sometimes we cannot understand return phone numbers, especially if you are calling from a cell phone - these calls can not always be heard on the voice mail.
