25th - Indiana Horse Rescue Southwest 2009 Spring Open House @ IHR Southwest facility in Owensville, Indiana from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Activities to include: Face Painting & Balloon Animals, Pony Rides and Pictures, Horse Demonstrations, Games & Prizes, Door Prizes, Horse Photo Contest, and Horse Adoptions, Food & Drinks will be available for a minimal donation.

24th - We will have the Spring Indiana Horse Rescue benefit ride at York Hills Horse Park, Albion, IN. This is the same place as last year’s Spring ride. The owners have been working over the winter and now have restrooms, shower stalls, and a horse wash rack. This means they also have a well installed so there is a constant fresh water supply. They hope to have electric campsites by Memorial Day weekend, but no guarantees.

The “special event” of this year’s Spring ride will be a fun CMO course. CMO stands for Competitive Mounted Orienteering. Here’s an explanation taken from the National CMO website, www.nacmo.org.

A few of us actually participate in nationally sanctioned CMO rides. A few more have tried it as a fun event and had a great time. We are sure that you will, too. We don’t plan on being very competitive, though. We’d like everyone to come and have fun riding the trails, enjoying the companionship of your horse and other riders, and learning something new to do on horseback. So, put the date on your calendar. We’ll get out more details closer to May 24, but you can plan on paying the usual York Hills day ride fee of $10. Free will donations of money, hay, and other horse items will be accepted for Indiana Horse Rescue.

The object of the sport is to ride out as an individual or a team on a prescribed course and find as many of the hidden Objective Stations as you can and get back in the least amount of time, on either a ten station long or 5 station short course.
